What Does a Reading Recovery® Lesson Look Like?
Shikellamy School District implemented Reading Recovery® in order to help first-grade children who are at the greatest risk of reading failure. The goal of Reading Recovery® is to support children as they become independent readers with internal self-extending systems. This means that the more the children read and write, the better they become at reading and writing. Selected children are given individually planned one-on-one instruction for 30 minutes each day in addition to their regular classroom instruction. This support will take place for up to 20 weeks. Here is an outline of what happens during a Reading Recovery® Lesson.
